Call for Participation: Training of Trainers (ToT) on Citizen Science for Disaster Risk Reduction &Climate Change Adaptation

The Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF), in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), invites applications from passionate Ghanaian youth for a 3-day hands-on Training of Trainers (ToT) on Citizen Science for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in December.

This training is part of a broader project to build youth capacity in climate resilience and citizen science, fostering collaboration between Ghanaian and Japanese youth to tackle disaster risks and promote sustainable adaptation strategies.

About the Training
Young people play a critical role in shaping a resilient future. Yet, their participation in structured disaster risk and climate adaptation efforts remains limited. This training aims to close that gap by equipping participants with practical skills in citizen science, river monitoring, and leadership for
resilience building. Through expert-led sessions and field demonstrations, participants will explore how citizen science can support local and national disaster risk management and contribute to the global climate adaptation agenda.

Objectives

The training seeks to:

  • Build youth knowledge and skills in climate change and disaster risk reduction (DRR)
  • Train participants in UNESCO’s citizen science tools and methodologies for river monitoring.
  • Foster leadership and mentorship to strengthen community-level resilience.
  • Create a network of youth facilitators championing citizen-led monitoring and adaptation initiatives.

What Participants Will Gain

  • Hands-on experience in river monitoring and data collection.
  • Training on UNESCO citizen science tools and techniques
  • Certification as a Youth Trainer in Citizen Science.
  • Access to international learning exchanges, including collaboration with Japanese youth networks.
  • Opportunity to train and mentor other young people in local communities.
