As part of the celebration of this year’s International Children’s Day which is celebrated every November 20, the Youth Bridge Foundation, a non-governmental organisation with focus on bridging gaps for positive youth development, wishes to call on the public and stakeholders to protect children as well as educate themselves on the effects of child labour and the need to eliminate it to safeguard children in the country.
Basing on this year’s international theme dubbed: “Children of Today, Our Keepers Tomorrow”, YBF encourages stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, parents, teachers, and legal representatives to be more vibrant to promote children’s interest in club activities that would provide a platform for the efforts of upholding children’s right to be recognized by all.
“On this day as we celebrate the young ones who are our Keepers tomorrow, let us understand how children perceive concepts like child labour, child rights and responsibilities and how these affects them,” Mr Seth Oteng, the Executive Director of YBF said.
He also entreated parents to take good care of their children and provide them with education to enable them to become good leaders in future.
Mr Oteng said aside the practice endangering the life of the children as they are made to do works meant for adults, it also retarded the progress and development of the country.
He said YBF in collaboration with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) through a YBF Project “Access to Justice” was championing the rights of children and Persons with Disabilities in the country by educating children, teachers, parents and communities on the negative effects of child abuse and labour adding that “Through this course we have also premiered PUZZLED, a 13-episode television series that brings to bare some of the inhumane plights the youth including persons with disabilities in Africa are exposed to in the country,” he said.
International Children’s Day was established in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20th each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.
YBF, a non-Governmental organisation of the yearly leadership grooming programme, is accredited with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Special Consultative Status.
As a youth-focused educational organisation, it has the goal of bridging gaps for positive youth development.
