STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT – YOUTH IN GHANA PLEDGE TO HONOR DISTRICT ASSEMBLY BASIC RATE

Acknowledging the low level of understanding of local government functions and processes among young people in Ghana, the Youth Bridge Foundation with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ghana organized a 2-day capacity building workshop for youth drawn from 11 districts in 7 regions

Recognizing that over 73% of Ghana’s population are below 35 years making Ghana a youthful population like many other African countries,

Emphasizing the words of Workshop Keynote Speaker, Eastern Region Minister, Honorable Seth Kwame Acheampong charging youth to seize the opportunity to be responsible citizens of their community,

Learning for the first time, the compulsory payment of annual district assembly basic rate by youth constituents having listened to presentations of the budget and planning processes at the local level,

Youth, responding to the charge, pledge to honor their basic rate debt.
