EC CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES: YOUTH BRIDGE RESEARCH INSTITUTE COMMENDS EC AND CALLS FOR MEDIA SUPPORT

  •  A couple of months ago, we, at the Youth Bridge Research Institute, a subsidiary organization of the Youth Bridge Foundation, demanded the publication of the EC’s calendar of activities to enable us to put in place our interventions to mobilize the teaming youth to fully participate in the activities.
  • We also expressed concern about the potential marginalization of first-time voters who have turned 18years and older since the last national voter registration towards the 2016 Elections and called for the implementation of continuous voter registration.
  • We commend the EC for being transparent and responsive to our call and indeed, the call of many well-meaning Ghanaians and democracy watchers.
  •  We also commend the EC for being resolute in the use of its district offices for the up-coming limited voter registration; a decision we trust will reduce cost and facilitate the continuous voter registration agenda.
  • We wish to assure the EC that we would, through youth friendly initiatives sensitize and mobilize Ghana’s young voter population to actively and fully participate in the calendar of activities as outlined, in a fully informed manner.
  • We finally pledge our unflinching support, as a youth development agency, for the EC to enable it carry out its scheduled activities, starting with the limited voter registration starting June 17 through to July 7, 2019.

Call to Media Houses
We respectfully urge the Media to table the issues of the limited voter registration and the election calendar on the front burner of public discourse in an attempt to sensitize Ghanaians about the activities and to encourage total adherence to the calendar. We make this call given the importance of an election calendar in averting suspicion and fostering proper preparations among all election stakeholders.

SIGNED
Professor Ransford Gyampo Head, Youth Bridge Research Institute (YBRI)
